UK EMBASSY IN VIETNAM

The UK has had a diplomatic presence in Hanoi, capital of Vietnam,
for over 50 years. We opened a Consulate-General in 1954.
Following the establishment of full diplomatic relations in 1973, the Consulate-General in Hanoi was upgraded to an Embassy.
The UK's Embassy grew substantially in the mid-1980s to meet the demand of the bilateral
relationship.
The Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City opened in 1993. It has 2 UK-based staff and 11 locally-engaged office staff.

the establishment of full diplomatic relations in 1973, and now involve a wide-range of sectors,

VIETNAMESE PRIME MINISTER NGUYEN TAN DUNG VISITS THE UK FOR THE 1ST TIME.

The visit by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to the UK took place in March 2008, which was very successful and set a sound foundation for further UK- Vietnam cooperation.
At the meeting in London, Gordon Brown and Prime Ministers Nguyen Tan Dung agreed to work together on five priority areas: investerment and trade; development; international issues; education and dealing with illegal migration and international crime. UK aid to Vietnam – now running at about $100m a year, makes Britain become one of the largest donors of aid to Vietman. UK - Vietnam trade has registered consistent double-digit growth over the past decade and currently stands at around $1.9bn. The UK is also one of the EU's largest investors in Vietnam with investments totalling $1.6bn. More than 7,000 Vietnamese students are now studying in the UK. UK-Vietnam relations are excellent and are set to improve further.
