What is the minimum order of hoodies / hooded sweaters?
The minimum order of hoodies to get a reasonable quote (under GBP 10 per hooded sweater) varies from 200 to 300 hoodies depending on the weight of the fabric.

Let's take a great quality fabric of 330 g/m2, the most commonly used fabric weight for streetwear clothes:

- GBP 700 buys enough ready to dye fabric to make around 200 hoodies (depending on the dimensions).
- GBP 300 would be the budget for dying all 200 hoodies. This can be done in 1 or 2 colours.
- GBP 400 to cover the manufacturing.

Add a couple of extras for the woven labels, hanging cards, personalized plastic bags and the total cost of the hoodies will be between GBP 1500 and 2000.

Keep in mind that the price for sweaters would be slightly lower. That's because we can cut more sweaters than hoodies in the roll of fabric.

I am looking for a clothes manufacturer to make up some towelling hoodies for children and adults (85% cotton / 15% polyester mix).
3 colours required (in stripes) with contrasting piping around the hood and the pockets.
I have last year's specs. and some samples.
quantity required is 300 hoodies.
I need delivery by end of February 2009 in UK - Can you help me?

Hi, thanks for your email, 300 hoodies can be delivered within 2 months or less depending on the shipping mode..
This timing is based on 1 month for production in our factory in Vietnam, plus 1 month for transport by sea to the uk.
That means the feb 2009 deadline is very likely to fit in.

The difficulty in this case will be the sourcing of the striped towel fabrics requested for the hoodies.
300 pieces in 3 different colours means only 100meters of each fabric.
Such a small quantity of fabric can not be ordered.

Therefore the only way to get these 300 hoodies produced will be to find the fabric in an existing stock of a supplier.
Luckily, in Vietnam we have access to a large range of fabric suppliers.

Alternatively, the client could provide us with the fabric, or order a larger amount of fabric.
A good solution would be to order the minimum quantity of fabric and then use only a part of the fabric obtained to manufacture the 300 hoodies.

I'm looking for Pull on hoodys for men in different colours and crew neck jumpers for men also in different colours.

Prices for 20 hoodies per colour will be around GBP 15,00 per piece
This is a very small quantity of clothes.
The only way to obtain the hoodies at a lower price will be to increase the quantity.

The bath used for dying the fabric cost around GBP100 for 200 meters of fabric.
This represents around 200 sweaters / hoodies of the same colour.
The dying of only 20 meters of fabric (for 20 hoodies) will bear the same cost than dying 200 meters : gbp 100.

Also, the labour cost involved in the manufacturing of the hoodies can be reduced.
A small team of 8/9 sewers manufacture around 200 hoodies in a day.

In this case study, the cost of obtaining a Certificate of Origin - around gbp 100 - is spread on a small quantity of products.

Conclusion about hoodies: the right quantity, the right price for your business

If the market you are targeting and the distribution mode you are using allow to get going with a manufacturing cost of gbp 15, then go for it.
If not, the price can easily be reduced to gbp 8,00 by ordering around 150 hoodies or sweaters per colour.
